We had planned to get out the door a little earlier, but the need for sleep took over. We slept in an hour and left our hotel by 9:30 to explore Central Park and Uptown.
It was a beautiful morning. It wasn't as cold as it had been, there was a race just finishing up in Central Park, and everything seemed just a little bit calmer in this part of the city.
Before Central Park we decided to walk to see the LDS Temple. We were trying to find it on the GPS, walked across the street, and realized we had been standing right by it without even realizing it!
It was neat to see. So unique from any other temple/church building I've been in. It felt so peaceful is a city with so much chaos.
We strolled around Central Park for a good hour or so. It was so beautiful and peaceful. I love time in big cities, but I'm definitely a nature girl at heart.
It was getting a little chilly again so we stopped to get some hot cocoa at a little cafe in Central Park. It was so disgusting, neither of us could even choke it down. It was the only gross food we had the whole trip, but man it was awful.
We watched the boat races for a few minutes...
And ate some delicious roasted nuts. Yum.
(By this point we were getting really cheesy with our pictures.)
Delicious pizza for lunch again...
Dylan's Candybar...
We walked all the way to Serendipity's for a mid-day dessert only to find out there was a 2 hour wait. Boo.
FAO Shwartz...
We watched the Big Piano Show and then cruised 5th Avenue.
After 5th we decided to go to Times Square to get tickets for another show that night. To make a long story short, we debated for a while of what to see. Did we want to see a classic or something new? We decided on something new. We tried to get tickets for Jersey Boys, couldn't, so we got tickets for Memphis instead. I might have pouted a little for not getting my first pick (and because the grouchy New Yorker at the ticket booth put me in a foul mood), but we LOVED Memphis!
After getting tickets we walked to the Rockefeller Center, not knowing that it cost a whopping $25 each to go to the Top of the Rock. No thank you.
We went to Grand Central Station, got a little treat at Magnolia Bakery (yum), sat down to eat it, and didn't get up for 30 minutes. We were plum-tuckered out! Plus, we weren't sure what else we wanted to do (or had time to do) before we needed to head back to Times Square for our show.
We decided on walking around Union Square and then having a relaxing dinner at Rosa Mexicano's. Seriously amazing food. The guacamole they made tableside was so delicious I refused to leave until every last bit of it was gone.
Then it was off to Memphis. Like I said, we totally loved it and Sean got to say "I told you so". Great plot, great music, great dancing. Loved it.
The wind was blowing us away and it was bitter cold but we finished the night with dessert at Serendipity's. This time we made reservations ;-)
We waited forever for the Subway, watched some more subway rats running around, and headed home for a few hours of sleep before our plane left at 6:30am.
It was a quick trip, but we LOVED it! We ate a ton, walked a ton, and had a ton of fun. It's always fun to have each other all to ourselves as well as get a little break from the responsibilities of life. We missed our little people though, and were excited to see them and celebrate Easter together!
