This news is totally worth documenting...
For anyone that knows Ryker, they know that he has been an incredibly difficult eater for the last 2-3 years of his life. When he was an infant/toddler he ate pretty much anything we gave him. I'm not sure exactly how, why or when, but he just stopped eating. At first, I thought it was a texture thing. For example, he has NEVER tried potatoes or certain pastas and he has never eaten junk food or fast food (which sometimes would make life easier!).
In this journey of him being a picky eater, we have tried very hard to never give into him. We give him whatever we are eating and hope for the best, but usually plan for the worst. With every meal he gets a fruit, veggie, grain, dairy, and then whatever main dish we are eating. He then gets to choose what he eats. He has gone to bed hungry many times :-( It got to the point about a year ago that he was telling me things like, "Mommy, I don't like food." From someone who loves food and knows the importance of eating healthy foods this broke my heart. It is really important to me that my kids have a healthy relationship with food, so this was really challenging for me to know how to deal with.
After consulting with his doctor many times about the issue we came up with a few guidelines that we have gone by through the years. These guidelines aren't meant for everyone, they just worked for us. Well, I finally feel like things are starting to change a little! In the last month or so he has tried about 10-15 new foods! Five of which have been just this last week. This is HUGE people. He hasn't always liked them, but the point is he is TRYING THEM! Now it's getting to the point where he is asking me to make certain foods so he can try them. This makes me want to cry :-)
Here is a list of a few of the foods he has tried. Most of them seem like no-brainers. Of course a kid would like them! The problem has been that he wouldn't even try new foods, and if we ever tried to force it it just put him back and made the issue even worse. So, the fact that he is the one choosing to put new foods in his mouth is really great progress!
Crepes
French Toast
BBQ Pork
Cottage Cheese
Peas
Frozen Peas
Asparagus
Sausage
Scrambled Eggs
Bagel with Cream Cheese
Rice
Pineapple
Tortillas
The next thing he wants to try is spaghetti and meatballs!
I am so proud of him, and we make a big deal out of it anytime he tries a new food. I hope these baby steps continue.

That is so awesome! Pman is a very picky eater too. Hard stuff. Def something worth celebrating!!!
YAY! This is SO exciting!!! :)
I was just telling Jake yesterday that I feel like Ev is a mini Ryker sometimes. Everett won't even open his mouth to try a food to see if he'll even like it or not. It's totally frustrating trying to go anywhere... I was just telling Jake that it was WAY easier when he drank a bottle (when everyone else tells you it will get easier to go places when they start eating "real" food.)
It's so good to hear what is working for you guys so that we can try it on Everett later! :)
yay Ryker!!
